Privacy Policy for Jotline
Effective date: June 27, 2026
Jotline (“the app”) is a timestamped note-taking app. This policy
explains what data the app handles, why, and the choices you have. It is
written to be honest and specific rather than exhaustive boilerplate.
The app is developed by Hakjae Jung (“we”,
“us”). If you have any questions, contact us at
hakjae.jung@gmail.com.
The short version
- The app stores the notes you write so they can sync across your devices.
- It does not show ads, does not use
analytics or crash-tracking SDKs, and does not track you
or sell your data to anyone.
- The only third party that processes your data is Google
Firebase (cloud storage and sign-in), plus Apple
if you choose Sign in with Apple.
What data we handle
1. Your notes. The text you type, along with the date of
each note and the time it was last edited, is saved to the cloud so it is
backed up and available on your other devices. Your notes are stored privately
under your account and are not readable by other users.
2. Account information.
- On first launch, the app signs you in anonymously — an
automatically generated account identifier with no personal information
attached. This is what lets your notes save to the cloud with zero setup.
- If you choose to connect a Google or Apple account
(Account & sync screen), we receive a unique account identifier and
your email address (or, with Sign in with Apple, a private relay email if
you choose to hide it). This is used solely to link your notes to a
recoverable identity so they survive reinstalls and sync across devices.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, device
advertising ID, or any analytics or usage-tracking data.
How your data is used
Your data is used only to provide the app’s core function: saving,
backing up, and syncing your notes, and identifying your account so the right
notes load on each device. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any
secondary purpose.
Where your data is stored and who processes it
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — your notes and account
record are stored in Cloud Firestore, and authentication is handled by
Firebase Authentication. Google processes this data as our service
provider. See Google’s
privacy policy.
- Google Sign-In (only if you connect a Google account).
- Apple Sign in with Apple (only if you connect an Apple
account). See Apple’s
privacy policy.
The Export feature creates a backup file on your own device
and hands it to your device’s share sheet (e.g. to save to Files or send
to yourself). That file is not uploaded to us or any server by the app.
Data retention and deletion
Your notes are retained as long as your account exists so they remain
available across your devices.
- Signing out (Account & sync → Sign out) disconnects
this device and returns it to a fresh local-only account; your notes remain
in the account you signed out of.
- To delete your account and all associated notes, email
hakjae.jung@gmail.com from the
address connected to your account and we will delete your data. Anonymous
accounts that are never connected to a Google or Apple account exist only
for that install and are not personally identifiable.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS, and data at rest is protected by
Google Cloud’s infrastructure security. Access to your notes is
restricted to your own authenticated account by Firestore security rules.
Children
Jotline is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in
your country) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be
reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the app after
an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
